SoundCloud has long been a flexible solution for music distribution, particularly for those wanting to represent multiple artists without too many constraints. However, it has some drawbacks, as discussed in this post and this one. The comparison with DistroKid is inevitable: their basic Ultimate subscription allows up to five artists – a number that quickly becomes insufficient for a growing operation, especially one running on a non-profit basis.
Despite this, we’ve taken the leap into the DistroKid ecosystem, aiming to better manage our presence on platforms like YouTube. This grants us greater control over music releases – an important move, even if the future remains uncertain. Cover productions are also part of the plan, although likely limited geographically according to DistroKid’s policies. This is still an experimental phase, but the door to new opportunities has now been opened.
